Orthodontic examination

An assessment of tooth position and of the bite — the way the upper and lower teeth meet.

When to consult

  • Your teeth overlap or have shifted over time.
  • Your bite has changed, or you chew on one side only.
  • You are considering aligners and want to know whether your case suits them.
  • In children: permanent teeth are coming in crooked, or baby teeth are falling out unevenly.

Good to know

Some cases go beyond what a general dentist treats. When that is so, we refer you to an orthodontist — and we say so at the examination, not afterwards.

How it works

  1. Examination of alignment, of the bite and of the space available.
  2. Photographs and a digital impression.
  3. A panoramic radiograph if needed.
  4. Explanation of the options and their limits, and referral to a specialist if the case calls for it.

Frequently asked questions

At what age should a child be seen?

A first look around 7 or 8 lets us spot what is easier to correct early. That does not mean treatment starts at that age.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly.

The information on this page is general. Only an examination can tell what suits your situation.
