Periodontal examination

A detailed assessment of the gums and of the bone that supports the teeth. We measure, we record and we explain: gum disease is often painless and cannot be guessed at.

When to consult

  • Your gums bleed when you brush or floss.
  • You notice persistent bad breath.
  • A tooth is loose or has shifted.
  • You have already been told about gum disease.
  • You smoke, or you live with diabetes: two factors that weigh on the periodontium.

Good to know

Gum disease often progresses without pain. That is why we measure it rather than estimate it.

How it works

  1. Probing of the depths around each tooth, and recording of bleeding.
  2. Recording of recession, mobility and areas of inflammation.
  3. Radiographs to measure the bone level, and photographs if needed.
  4. Explanation of the diagnosis, the prognosis for each tooth and the proposed plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is it painful?

Probing is uncomfortable where the gum is inflamed, rarely elsewhere. Tell us: we can slow down or pause.

How long does the examination take?

About 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of teeth and the extent of the inflammation.

The information on this page is general. Only an examination can tell what suits your situation.
